Her parents were murdered. Her brother has gone. She will have closure whatever the cost.

Her mother was murdered. Her father nine years later. Are their deaths connected? It’s a question that has haunted Rosie Macintyre for twelve years.

When Benjamin Graves is convicted of her father’s murder she should be relieved, but instead, Rosie finds herself alone in disbelieving the crime lord’s confessions of guilt and convinced that the shooting of her father is linked to the unsolved murder of her mother, twelve years previously.

Her quest to find the truth is further hindered by her enigmatic ex-shrink being back in her life.

Meanwhile, the squad’s long-serving DS is replaced by a man who is much more than he appears to be.

Relative Justice Book 1 eBook Michael R Jones

Relative Justice starts out like a conventional crime thriller – with a crime scene and a mystery killer. The heart of the story, though, lies in the relationship between the three main characters, all of them police officers. There is Jack Shepard, the lead detective, who fits the grumpy old bugger mould you often get in crime fiction but with plenty of nuances to go with it. Rosie, his god daughter whose backstory is intertwined with that of the local crime family. And Rob Peters, ex-navy who has recently joined the squad and has a fair bit of back story of his own.
It is the interaction between these three that makes the book an enjoyable one to read, but the plotting too is worth a mention. A large supporting cast provides plenty of plausible candidates for who the killer might be, and the way the story unfolds keeps you guessing, with much of it revolving about how the respective family histories of Rosie and Rob become more and more tangled with the case they are investigating, and each other.
Payback, the sequel, starts out in a similar mode, but soon has a twist that takes it outside the usual crime fiction sphere.

Relative Justice Book 1 eBook Michael R Jones Reviews

This is a cracking police procedural thriller, well written, and with an original storyline. I found it totally gripping and rushed to finish it. It starts off with a murder of four people in a house, but the sinister motives for the murder point to a connection to the separate murders of DC Rosie MacIntyre’s parents in the past. Her dead policeman father’s notebook, found at the scene of the crime, goes missing. The DS in the investigating team is not what he claims, and then more murders follow. The mystery intensifies as it unfolds, with it soon becoming apparent that there are some bad apples in high places and much treachery in store. All in all a fine read with plenty of twists and turns along the way, and the ending sets up the sequel very nicely indeed. Highly recommended.
A dead man's notebook holds the key in this very tight and enjoyable crime thriller. There's a very creepy killer, very well-drawn characters in Rosie, Peters, and Shepherd who are tracking him down, and lots of crackling dialogue and steamy sexual energy driving the intricate plot forward. Totally recommended.
I was fortunate to read an early draft of this novel and I believe it is perfect for fans of Ann Rule the characters, particularly Rosie—she is a layered protagonist, whose emotional journey keeps you at the edge of your seat—the investigators’ dynamic, the obsessive aspect that pervades the story.

The plot is intricate and without the obvious suspects, who sometimes take away of the fun of discovery. Rosie’s dark past had a ripple effect, one with no clear resolution. Building trust with her new colleague is anything but easy.

Fans of mystery genre will not be disappointed! Read it.
