These early works by Lucy Maud Montgomery was originally written in the early 20th century and we are now republishing them with a brand new introductory biography. 'Lucy Maud Montgomery Short Stories, 1905 to 1906' is a collection of tales that include 'Clorinda's Gifts', 'Her Own People', 'In the Old Valley', and many more. Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on 30th November 1874, New London, in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island. Her mother, Clara Woolner (Macneil), died before Lucy reached the age of two and so she was raised by her maternal grandparents in a family of wealthy Scottish immigrants. In 1908 Montgomery produced her first full-length novel, titled 'Anne of Green Gables'. It was an instant success, and following it up with several sequels, Montgomery became a regular on the best-seller list and an international household name. Montgomery died in Toronto on 24th April 1942.

Lucy Maud Montgomery Short Stories 1905 to 1906 edition by L M Montgomery Literature Fiction eBooks

Montgomery writes in a very sentimental, old fashioned fairy tale style. By fairy tale, I mean the lovers eventually come together and everyone lives happily ever after. Despite the clear efforts to continually tug at your heartstrings, one can't help getting the occasional lump in the throat. One of her short stories, for example, is like a condensed version of Oliver Twist. All said and done, Montgomery's short stories are easy to read at one sitting and make pleasant bedside reading. Ricardo Silverburn, children's author.

Lucy Maud Montgomery Short Stories 1905 to 1906 edition by L M Montgomery Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I'm a lifelong fan of L.M. Montgomery. I reread her books at least once a year, and love them more each time. I gave this e-book a 3 because of the poor quality of this edition. Quite a bit of text was out of its place, which made it a bit difficult to read. Her work gets 5 stars, as always!
Interesting short stories. A nice bit of time to read bdfore going to bed. You can fininsh your story and sleep knowing you read tp the end.
As always, a great LM Montgomery book. Love love the short story books!
Some of the stories I've read in other books before. I really enjoy her writing, such vivid description.
Read them and love them as a slice of Anne's world. They are views of the things L M Montgomery knew. As someone who aspires to write himself, I look for the craft in these stories. As a reader I have to remember when they were written and account for the context of life that is unknown to me today. There are subtleties there that could be missed if viewed with today's point of view. The stories help reinforce all the things I love about Anne, and Emily, Valancy and Jane, and other characters from her novels.
If you would like to escape for a little time to a world where gentlemen courted ladies by walking them home from church, this is your book. And since it is in short story form, it is good to read just before dozing off... Sweet dreams!
I have just 'discovered' Lucy Maud Montgomery's short stories. I had only read "Anne of Green Gables" until recently. She has a wonderful variety of stories that are amazingly positive and hopeful, as well as real heart wringers. She hasn't written a single dud as far as I am concerned. If you look at her life versus her wonderful stories, you come away amazed and heartened by her ability to write such wonderful pictures of people and places and to show just how much imagination can heal and help people as they live their lives.
